I don't have much to offer, but maybe someone else here does.
Best I can say is do a 'man -k xml | grep ::' and see what's
already installed.. often linux and sometimes even OSX have
some cool stuff already installed.
Otherwise, I slink over to CPAN.org to see what's available,
as they're usually where all the ubiquitous perl stuff is found.
