Sorry for my lack of terminal fu, but when I do this method, I get a permission denied. but if I do sudo it works:

gfx11:~ gfx11$ nuke
-bash: /usr/bin/nuke: Permission denied
gfx11:~ gfx11$ sudo nuke
Password:
Nuke 6.3v6, 64 bit, built Nov 30 2011.

tips on how I get it so it just executes? Thanks Greg!

Perhaps what you want to do to solve the issue for 'everyone'
is to make a nuke 'wrapper' script called /usr/bin/nuke
that sets the environment you want before running nuke.
