Here's a tip for anyone deploying an After Effects CS6 farm. With the new volume licensing, you are required to serialize each machine. This applies to volume licenses as well. It's a pain for image deployment, but manageable. I just deployed the image, then serialized the machines that will have aritsts, while the render farm remained unserialized and used aerender render engine only.
Trouble is machines began failing, with no output. It turns out that aerender--despite being a free renderer--requires a serialized machine. Pretty annoying, and not feasible for a render farm. The workaround is this:
Install After Effects on the render-only machine. Place a blank file named ae_render_only_node.txt into one of the following locations, depending on the user account type: - Mac locations:
- /Users/<username>/Documents/
- /Users/Shared/Adobe/
- Windows locations:
- C:\Users\<username>\Documents
- C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe
