Just received a report that Maya 2014 doesn't come pre-packaged
with the Mental Ray plugin, it's a separate install now.
[Thanks to Jeff Yana for this info].

	I found more info here:
	http://elementalray.wordpress.com/2013/04/12/maya-2014-mental-ray/

Quoting the relevant bit, in case that link goes stale:

"""
With the release of Maya 2014 comes changes to the integration
of mental ray. Foremost is that mental ray is now a truly separate
plug-in installation. This means Autodesk can support multiple versions
with bug fixes in a release for Maya.
"""

Perhaps also of use, be sure the plugin is enabled in the plugin manager:
	http://www.digitaltutors.com/forum/showthread.php?36176-Maya-2014-no-mental-ray-problem
	http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Hardware-OS/How-to-enable-Mental-Ray-in-Maya-2014/td-p/4329684

If the mray plugin doesn't show in the list, be sure the mental ray
plugin option has been /installed/, as it's no longer part of the main
Maya distro in 2014, according to the report.
