How to Save/Load Job Submit Forms

The submit-*.pl scripts in the examples directory now enable a feature that lets you save/load your job forms so you don't have to re-enter them.

It can take a while to fill out job submit forms. Sometimes you have many different jobs you submit over and over.

You can save the forms you fill out so you can access them later with a hotkey or from a list using the 'Forms' submenu:



This save/load feature is new in 102.31n+.

Saving A Form

Why save a form? So you can retrieve it later, without having to retype everything. It's easy; just follow these steps.

1. Fill out your job form.

   Fill out the fields as you normally would. Once you've entered everything correctly..

2. Hit Save This Form in the Forms menu.

   

   The following window opens, showing a list of your previously saved forms, your new entry highlighted at the bottom of the list as 'New Command'.

   

3. Name the form.

   You will always want to change the "New Command" default name by editing the 'Name' field to be descriptive of the form's contents. Typically, one would use the job title, frame range, etc.
   

4. Assign a 'Hotkey'. (optional)

   You can optionally assign any of the Function keys along the top of your keyboard to be a 'Hotkey' to load a saved form when you hit the key.
   

   Just hit that Function key while in the form to automatically load the entry form with your pre-saved data.

5. Hit 'Done' to save the changes.

Loading Previously Saved Forms

There are at least three ways to load previously saved forms. Try any one:

• Use The List

  Use the list in the 'Forms' submenu; all of your forms will be listed below the 'Load' and 'Save' options.
  

• Use The Forms Menu

  Use Forms->Load, and click on entries in the list.
  

  You can use the arrow keys to scroll up and down through them; watch the form to see the fields change as you move from one entry to the next.

• Use The Hotkeys

  Hit the Hotkey's you programmed for your form to retrieve forms.
  

Miscellaneous Notes

NOTE: In previous versions (102.31m and earlier) you could use the older File->Save and File->Load functions to save entries to a file. The operations have been renamed to File->Import and File->Export in 102.31n.

The File->Import and File->Export functions let you specify an absolute filename to save each individual form to, which is usually more specific than most people need.

The newer Forms->Save and Forms->Load functions all save to a single file in your home directory (usually ~/.submit-XXX.hist or similar) as specified by the -H argument to the input program. See 'input -help' for info.
